WELCOME to all new and returning families to Clovelly Out of School Care 2009,

The service has opened on a busy year with record number of before-care spaces and a surge in the number of children aged nine and over coming to after care.  The 9+ numbers are so good that the services is able to offer swimming excursions at Clovelly Beach for the first time ever.  The newly-refurbished 9+space has been well-received by older children who appreciate a homework space and chill out area away from the younger children.

COOSC has also secured government funding under the “Active After Schools” program to continue with professional sports coaches two days a week.  Children are enjoying the all ages games with coaches Darren and Stuart and learning new skills in a fun and inclusive environment.

At the current time, the Centre is catering for approximately 765 childcare places, across all sessions, every week.  Numbers are capped at 100 for aftercare and 45 in the morning.

COOSC also welcome Jessica Smith as Assistant Coordinator. She joins Paula, Noelene, Scott and the rest of the friendly team at Clovelly Out of School Care.

2009 Kindys are settling in well to the Centre and continue to be collected every afternoon from their classrooms. This practice will continue until the end of Term 2.

ACCOUNTS 2009

IN 2009 the Federal Government introduced changes to the way childcare benefit rebates were managed and COOSC had to change accounting software to comply with new reporting requirements.  This also required a change of direct debit provider. At the current time the system is working well and statements are available on a fortnightly basis for all users.

A number of families still have outstanding debts from 2008, which have remained in the now redundant SmartFees system.  All families with outstanding balances will be issued a final account early in term 2. This must be paid within two weeks or current bookings will be suspended. If any parents have concerns about meeting this commitment, please feel free to contact Paula or Noelene to discuss options.

Thank you for your patience through the changeover process and please provide any feedback to Noelene at the Centre at any time.

STOP PRESS
It turns out that Monday 27 April is NOT a public holiday and COOSC will be open for childcare.  An extra day has been scheduled – WHEELS DAY – bring your blades, skateboard or scooter and helmet, pads etc.

CLOVELLY OUT OF SCHOOL CARE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The biggest issue COOSC faces this year is the need to bring new parents onto the Volunteer Management Committee.  At the current time the Committee comprises a majority of members who have served more than three years and whose children use the service very little, or not at all.  One member no longer has children at the school!.  The AGM is scheduled for April 30 at which time all positions will fall vacant. The aim is to recruit new members who are able to participate for a minimum of two years.

Why get involved?

  • COOSC Committee is a harmonious and productive group with one clear aim: to provide an excellent service for our children
  • Participation on the committee allows you to have input to decisions that directly impact on the service provided
  • COOSC welcomes single parents, children are able to come to the monthly meetings which are held at night and run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm
  • COOSC committee members have clearly-defined roles and we strive to share the workload so that all participants contribute equally
  • COOSC is a substantial childcare operation and participation on the committee may develop committee members skills in governance

Please consider if you are able to get involved – the current committee has done an excellent job over the past three years and are now ready to hand over to a new group.  COOSC is in good financial shape, has benefited from substantial investment in amenities and has been awarded quality accreditation.   Incoming members with experience in HR, Management, Marketing, Childcare, Finance or any other relevant skills will find being part of COOSC Management Committee a rewarding experience.
